Arthur's Halloween: Book & CD

Sure to be popular due to the success of the new PBS television series, these new additions to the series demonstrate the vocal talent of author/illustrator Marc Brown. Arthur's creator reads the texts, giving each character a distinctive voice. He is able to portray the females, like mother and D.W., while avoiding stereotypical high, squeaky voices. The production values on the recordings are excellent, with background music and helpful sound effects. The slamming of car doors, the sound of rain or footsteps, and other sound effects give the tapes the quality of old radio shows. Each tape opens with the theme song, "Say Hello to Arthur." Both sides of each tape are the same except for the page-turning signal bell on one side. In Arthur's Family Vacation, rain ruins the family's stay at the beach until Arthur thinks of activities they can do. In Arthur's Halloween, Arthur and D.W. learn you can't presume a house is haunted just because the outside looks run down. The artwork in each children's book features Brown's customary cartoon-like ink and watercolor illustrations that add humor to the stories. The tapes work well even without the kids books. Trick or Treat: A Peanuts Halloween

I will admit to being a somewhat casual reader of comic strips. I have a few favorites I follow regularly, but around the holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas is really when I sit down and read a lot of newspaper strips. I guess I just love seeing how they celebrate the holidays and their usually quite funny. This collection of Peanuts strips is all about Halloween as Charlie and the gang go trick-or-treating, have parties, and dress up for the season. It is not a complete collection of all of Schulz strips to be sure, but it is a nice, representative gathering of material culled from over the years. also included throughout is mostly forgettable tips for throwing parties, decorating, and recipes. None of it worth much and I would have preferred to see more comics and some in color as opposed to that stuff. all in all a nice collection. I highly recommend this children's book, especially for any die-hard Peanuts fan. It was wonderful to see how Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the gang changed over time. And I happen to like Schulz's humor better when he first started writing and drawing; it was more childlike. The comics are Halloween and monster themed and some of them are hilarious, ones I have not seen in a long time. Of course there is lots about "The Great Pumpkin" but how could it be coming Halloween and Linus does not mention him! Read it and enjoy. Good old fashioned comics and humor! This Halloween kids book is for children reading levels ages 4-8.

10-Minute Critical Thinking Activities for Math

I bought this kids book so I could be kept up to date on my math skills. This book was an excellent choice for me. It has tons of problems in the following areas: Critical Thinking and Algebra, Logic and Critical Thinking, Number theory and Problem Solving, Sequences Patterns and Codes and Visual/Geometric Patterns. It starts off basic and gets more challenging. First you do work with patterns, then algebra, then some hard logic problems and onto problems involving thinking and counting (not simple 1,2,3 counting). I recommend this kids book to any adult who wants to "keep in touch" with their math skills. It is also good for a high school math class. This kids book is for children ages 12 and up.

Going Swimming

Here is the ideal way to show your toddler what happens at the swimming pool. A real understanding of the realities of family life is the highlight of these warm and reassuring little kids books. Parents in Touch Charming read. Packed full of details that had me imagining mini stories about the other characters. The style of illustration are realistic and the story is a great depiction of going swimming. These kids books are absolutely lovely. They should do very well for the really young person who might be about to go and do one of these things. This little kids book if for children reading level ages 3-6.

28 Good Night Stories

This anthology is neatly tied together with a knot of friendship between a guardian-angel trainee and an old bear. The two take turns sharing one story each night until the next full moon and the angel's big test. In the end, the bear learns the secret word that the angel has whispered in the ear of a child each night: "Grow." That is the central theme of each story, whether it be physical, emotional or intellectual growth. While the concept is sweet and the message meaningful (if forced at times), several stories lack the spark that would bring them to life. Tharlet's charming artwork employs a soft palette that lends to the somnolent feel of the stories, depicting the most cogent details of each. The affection between the two friends is easily apparent, while the adorable little angel's almost hopeless clumsiness will have readers rooting for his final success. A mixed result, but there are lessons to be learned here, and the illustrations are worth a look. This story book for kids is for ages 4-8.

1 Teddy Bear: A Counting Book

Teddy bears are certainly a favorite child's toy. Soft, warm, brown plush usually adds to the comfort. In this board book, the familiar toy comes in a variety of shades from almost yellow to dark brown, and the teddy bears are used to help kids learn to count from 1 to 10. The bears are shown in recognizable activities, two on the phone, four waving at the reader, six holding flowers, nine wearing red caps and ten all in a bed. With that many teddy bears, there is no room for a sleepy child, but the kids will enjoy seeing two teddy bears reading books, one snuggling with a doll and others already asleep. The spreads are different colors, so the little kids book could also be used to introduce more than half a dozen colors. This kids book is simple, but effective. This children's book is for kids ages 0-4. Preschoolers books for kids.

1 Teddy Bear: A Counting Book

Ragweed (The Poppy Stories)

It has a "city mouse, country mouse" theme in this rousing prequel to Poppy (1995), starring Poppy's ill-fated beau. Impelled by wanderlust to hop a train to who-knows-where, Ragweed ends up in the rundown part of Amperville, where the local mice (all named after car parts) are being terrorized by Felines Enraged About Rodents (F.E.A.R.), a two-cat extermination squad led by evil-tempered Silversides. After several brushes with death, Ragweed defiantly teams up with Clutch, green-furred lead guitarist for the B-Flat Tires, to open a dance club for mice only, then in the climax organizes a devastating counterattack that sends F.E.A.R. scurrying out of town. In the end, though, Ragweed opts for the country life (little knowing that it's going to be sweet but short). A colorful cast in which even the ferocious Silversides comes in for a dash or two of sympathy, plus a plot replete with, of course, narrow squeaks will keep readers turning the pages, while Floca's scenes of tiny mice fleeing looming, toothy predators add more than a touch of drama. This kids story book is for children ages 9-12.

Ragweed

1 Baby, 2 Cats, 3 Trucks

The back cover claims that "The excitement adds up on each page of this action-packed book." That, I am afraid, may be a bit of a stretch for this simple board book that counts from one to ten. The illustrations are stylized, the baby has a huge head, the cats extra long bodies and the dogs are not particularly realistic. The number on each page is big and bold, as is the word naming the objects to be counted. The scenes appear to be random and do not provide a story or lead to any conclusion. There is nothing exciting or outstanding about this counting book. However, it is a good introductory preschoolers book. This little kids book is for ages 0-4.

World War Hulk

It's a great comic book. I absolutely loved the story. It's about more than just a guy getting angry, turning green and demolishing everything. I believe it's about a tragic hero. This man, Bruce Banner, was tricked into being banished by his own peers, friends, and colleagues. He crash landed on a distant freaky planet, Sakaar, where he immediately became a slave, eventually overthrowing the king, becoming ruler and finally finding peace. Then the shuttle that brought him to Sakaar, exploded and caused the death of millions, including the Hulk's queen and the child she was carrying. What made this story so special is not just seeing that the Hulk was angry, but it was understanding WHY he was angry. I don't want to give the whole story here, but once I understood why he was angry, it made the story that much more meaningful for me. Once the story was finished I came to the conclusion that the Hulk is a hero, not a monster. I like John Romita, Jr's work. I thought that he decently portrayed the story through his art. I honestly believe though, that David Finch or Mike Deodato would have made the story come alive visually in terms of artistically showing the rage of the Hulk to the reader. I really did enjoy Romita's work on the WWH though. It's also pretty cool to see the Hulk just absolutely lay waste to Iron Man, Dr. Strange, Black Bolt, and Mr. Fantastic. Nothing made me smile more than seeing Iron Man take a beating. Of course I say this because of Cap's death as a result of the events of the Civil War. Iron Man has just become a jerk lately and seeing the Hulk give him a beating was very pleasing. I also liked the panels of the Hulk vs. The Sentry. I'm not a Sentry fan, but the fight was pretty cool and the Hulk stood his ground against Mr. Reynolds. All in all, I believe any Hulk fan should pick this up, it's worth the money to add to your collection. Most definitely the angriest the Hulk has ever been! My Grandpa and I

This is a very cute story book for kids. My son gave this to his Grandpa for Christmas so they could read it together. It is a really neat children's book for a Grandpa and Grandson to read during their special time together.
